Joining me to make fight predictions for UFC 144: Edgar vs Henderson live from Tokyo, Japan are Alexis Davis and Elaina Maxwell.
Alexis is busy preparing for her big fight night so she just gave names for her predictions of who will win this time. Her Strikeforce fight with Sarah Kaufman on Showtime is just days away on March 3rd (same night as Tate vs Rousey).
Elaina is a month away from her next fight scheduled for Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) 2 on March 30 at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Former UFC fighters, Houston Alexander vs Gilbert Yvel, are the main event for RFA2.
UFC 144 Fight Predictions
Here are our fight predictions presented with a summary of our picks.
Edgar vs Henderson
Elaina: "Bendo is so hungry for this title and he is ready to smoothly take it from Frankie. Action-packed from start to finish, these two fighters bring a plethora of talent into the octagon this weekend. The fans will not be disappointed. My fight prediction is a submission by Bendo in the fourth round. Fight of the Night goes to Bendo and Frankie"
Alexis: "Henderson"
Cheryl: This will be a keep your eyes glued to the screen fight. I'm looking forward to seeing what Frankie pulls out of his arsenal to handle Benson. But in the end, I'd like to see Benson become the new champion. Nothing wrong with Frankie, both men are deserving. Frankie is phenomenal and fighting as the underdog adds fuel to the fire. Picking Benson to win.
Summary: Frankie (0) Benson (3)
Rampage Jackson vs Ryan Bader
Elaina: "I think Rampage is more focused on doubling the Japanese population and being a movie star than body slamming his way to victory versus Bader. It will be a battle because Rampage ain't going out like that, but my fight prediction is Bader by unanimous decsision."
Alexis: "Bader (Quinton, I still love you.)"
Cheryl: Elaina's opinion may have been influenced by watching Rampage Jackson's long looks at women passing by in his 45 minute "walking interview" with Ariel Helwani. I disagree with both Elaina and Alexis, even though Bader has shifted his focus to creating and implementing an MMA game plan worked on with his new coach, Tom Vaughn. Picking Rampage to win.
Summary: Jackson (1) Bader (2)
Hunt vs Kongo
Elaina: "If you have ever met Kongo face to face, then you would know he is one lean, mean, tall, huge and muscular athlete of a man. Hunt may be technical, but he is nowhere near as agile or as athletic as Kongo. My fight prediction is Kongo by KO in the third round and KO of the night."
Alexis: "Hunt"
Cheryl: Kongo is a beast. "Super Samoan" is a heavier beast, but a shorter one. Who knows which style will prevail in this battle. Earth shaking drops to the canvas are to be expected. I'm picking the more handsome fighter to win- Kongo.
Summary: Hunt (1) Kongo (2)
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs Jake Shields
Elaina: "Despite the loss of his father and two recent MMA losses, Shields is back with a vengeance. Sexiyama is coming off of—not two, but three losses and when Jake is done submitting him in the first round, Sexiyama will be on a four-fight losing streak. For the submission of the night, my fight prediction is Shields by submission in the first round."
Alexis: "Shields"
Cheryl: As much as I love Sexyama, I think that Shields knows he needs to turn things around. This is his chance to do that. I'm looking forward to seeing Akiyama fighting at 17o lbs. After losing to Belfort, Bisping and Leben, fighting at a lighter weight may be the answer Sexyama is looking for. But, first he has to get used to performing at the lighter weight. Picking Shields to win.
Summary: Akiyama (0) Shields (3)
Yushin Okami vs Tim Boetsch
Elaina: "My blood runs red, white and blue, but I'm a realist. Okami is a beast and all of his losses are to champions, to say the least. My fight prediction is Okami by TKO in the third round."
Alexis: "Okami"
Cheryl: Giving the edge to the man with more fights under his belt. With experience gained after his fight with Anderson Silva (don't stand in the pocket with someone as skillful as Anderson), picking Okami to win.
Summary: Okami (3) Boetsch (0)
Hatsu Hioki vs Bart Palaszewski
Elaina: Hioki is obviously the favorite in this match. He has a height advantage as well. Hioki is a well-rounded fighter, but if Palaszewski loses this fight, it will be by decision. Due to home court advantage, my fight prediction is Hioki by second round TKO stoppage via GNP."
Alexis: "Hioki"
Cheryl: Deep fight experience for both of these 145ers with 47 fights for Bart and 31 for Hioki. Picking the striker, Bart to win.
Summary: Hioki (2) Bart (1)
Anthony Pettis vs Joe Lauzon
Elaina: "This will be an all out war. These two fighters bring so many tools to this fight, it's hard to predict a winner. However, with Lauzon being the better grappler with his length, I think Pettis has the opportunity to utilize his stand up skills in this fight. Even though Pettis has to live up to his highlight reel kick off the fence against Bendo, I am confident this fight will go the distance with Pettis winning by split decision.
Alexis Davis : Lauzon
Cheryl: As long as Joe doesn't get caught with some crazy highlight-reel off the fence kick from Pettis in the final seconds of the fight, this one has "Submission of the Night" written all over it. Sticking with Lauzon to win by submission.
Summary: Pettis (1) Lauzon (2)
