Miesha Tate: Ronda’s Gonna Get What She Asked For (Video)
Miesha Tate is the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, but for whatever reason, it seems that upstart Ronda Rousey is the one garnering the lion’s share of the attention heading into the main event showdown at Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey on March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.
Tate has openly questioned Rousey’s credibility in getting a title shot in his first fight at bantamweight, especially when she’s only had four professional fights on her resume. She does, however, realize this is a fight that excites fans and will likely draw more of them to favor women’s mixed martial arts.
“I believe that’s this fight at this point. Regardless of Ronda’s record, nevertheless, I feel like she’s still going to be a challenge,” Tate told MMAWeekly.com’s Damon Martin in an exclusive interview.
Tate isn’t one to hold her tongue, however. She openly despises Rousey and how she got the title shot.
“I feel she’s pretty much talked her way into this fight,” said Tate. “I think she still had one or two more fights before she earned a spot. She’s next in line, but she’s not the No. 1 contender.
“She’s gonna get what she asked for, but I don’t think she’s gonna want it.”
