Tim Peterson: Weekly Women’s MMA Review – 2/12

“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

Feb 10 - In a battle between top 125-pound prospects, it was 10th ranked Marianna “The Crushen Russian” Kheyfets (5-0) defeating Heather “Hurricane” Clark (4-2) via TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 5:00 of round 1 at XFC 16: “High Stakes”. The first round was extremely close, with both fighters content to keep the battle standing throughout, however with just seconds left in the round, Clark took Kheyfets to the mat with a leg trip and unfortunately either took a knee or elbow to the eye, causing the ringside doctor to stop the bout between rounds due to the extreme swelling.
Feb 10 - In another very competitive bout, Munah Holland (3-1) defeated Pearl Gonzalez (0-1) via majority decision at Ring of Combat 39 in Atlantic City.
Feb 11 - 5th ranked Featherweight, Yana “Foxy” Kunitskaya (6-1) defeated Ekaterina Saraykina (0-1) via TKO at 1:06 of the first round at Verdict Fighting Championship 1.
Feb 12 - In the lone pro MMA bout at Girl Fights Only 7, it was Danielle “The Curse” West (4-2-1) picking up the win over Jorina “Jo-Jo” Baars (0-2) via third round TKO.

Feb 18 - Amanda “Powerhouse” Lucas (3-1) takes on Yumiko Hotta (5-3) at DEEP 57 for the DEEP Open-Weight Women’s Championship.

Feb 18 - Both Stephanie “The Scrapper” Skinner (0-3) and Britany Nipper (0-4) look for their first win as a professional as they battle at UFA 8: “Women of MMA”. This event will also feature 7 or more amateur female bouts.
