UFC president Dana White on Wednesday night on Fuel TV announced the coaches from the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, which features a team of Australian fighters against a team of U.K. fighters.
“The coaches are (Ross) Pearson and (George) Sotiropoulos,” said White, also noting, “They will fight at the end of it.”
The announcement comes as little surprise. Most insiders pointed at Pearson and Sotiropoulos as the obvious choices.
Pearson (13-6) emerged in the UFC following his stint as a fighter on The Ultimate Fighter Season 9, which featured Team U.S.A. vs. Team U.K. He won the ninth season, but now finds himself in the same sort of TUF situation, only this time he’ll be the one coaching the team of British fighters through the process.
Sotiropoulos (14-4) is also an Ultimate Fighter alum, although he was part of the sixth season of the reality series.
Both fighters have had some impressive moments in their UFC careers, but each is now coming off of a loss. Their stint on TUF: The Smashes should give both ample time to regroup and emerge with an opportunity to reinvent their careers.
