Yana Kunitskaya To Face Anna Melikhova At Lion’s Fights 1

Lion’s Fights 1: “The Beginning” takes place on March 3rd at the CDC Aurora in Saint Petersburg, Russia and features an open-weight contest between 5th ranked Featherweight, Yana “Foxy” Kunitskaya and Anna Melikhova.
Kunitskaya (6-1) started her career by winning three of her first four fights before facing off with her toughest test to date in the form of previously unbeaten Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois, who holds a win over former Strikeforce champion, Marloes Coenen. Kunitskaya would pass this test with flying colors, scoring a TKO victory in 34 seconds of round one. In 2011, while splitting her time between kickboxing and MMA, she fought only once in mixed martial arts and in that bout she scored a quick stoppage over Arune Lauzeckaite, winning the Bushido women’s title. In her last match, just last month, she picked up her fourth straight first round TKO victory by defeating Ekaterina Saraykina. Melikhova (0-0), much like Lauzeckaite and Saraykina, brings a solid background in kickboxing into her fight with Kunitskaya, but she gives up a significant experience edge to her younger foe. Melikhova has won titles in Thai boxing and now looks to make a successful transition to mixed martial arts by upsetting Kunitskaya.
