It's becoming more and more unlikely that Gina Carano will make her in-ring return to MMA -- at least anytime soon.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Carano will star in In the Blood, an action thriller that will tentatively begin filming around late spring, early summer. Carano will play a wife who hunts down a man she believes kidnapped and killed her husband during a vacation in the Caribbean.

"This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past," director John Stockwell told The Hollywood Reporter.

In the Blood will be Carano's second major film following her starring role in the Steven Soderbergh-directed Haywire, which was widely released in January to mostly positive reviews.

Carano (7-1), who made her name in the MMA world in 2007 fighting on CBS for EliteXC, last competed in a losing effort against Cristiane Santos on a Strikeforce card in August 2009.
