Wombat Sports: Jessica Eye Outclasses Anita Rodriguez; Rebney Looks 2013 for 125 Tourney

#5 Unified Ranked Jessica Eye didn’t miss a beat on Friday night, getting a unanimous decision over Anita Rorduguez at Bellator 66 in Cleveland, OH.
Ohio’s own Eye dominated most of the fight on the feet; with some grappling in the first. Eye showed patients during the ground battle, and continued to out strike Rodriguez the rest of the fight. After an assault with leg kicks and punching combos, Eye took the unanimous decision 30-27 on all cards.
After the fights, Rebney stated it was a great possibility that the long awaited Bellator women’s flyweight tournament would start in January 2013; this according to an interview conducted by Yahoo Sports. The tournament would coincide with Bellator’s move to Spike TV and the addition of a third hour of fights.
Names being tossed around are the previously mentioned Eye, Rosi Sexton, and the two fighters who will square off at Bellator 69 in four weeks; #1 Unified ranked Strawweight Megumi Fujii and #2 ranked Jessica Aguilar. This would also include former Strikeforce 115 pound champion Zoila Gurgel; who is currently healing from injury.
(Note: Lisa Ellis was mentioned in the list, but Ellis is dropping to 105 pounds, so it’s unlikely she would compete.)
Rebney will be looking for other fighters to fill the open spots in the coming months.
