Savannah Labate: Cyborg to face Rousey vs. Kaufman winner?

Cris Cyborg Santos

The Strikeforce women’s fight we’ve all be waiting for could be in our near future. It’s been reported that former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champ Cris “Cyborg” Santos, may be making the drop down to bantamweight, when her steroid suspension is up in December of this year.

On yesterday’s Strikeforce:Rousey vs. Kaufman conference call, Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker was asked about a possible bout between Cyborg and the winner of Rousey vs. Kaufman, here’s what he had to say:
“Right now, Ronda and Sarah, they have a tough test next week in San Diego and Cyborg is out until the middle of December. We’ll have to talk to her at that time and see what her interest is as far as going down in weight. I know [Strikeforce matchmaker Sean Shelby] has started talking to Cyborg of fighting at 135, so there’s dialog, but nothing is confirmed. We’ll have to wait until after she gets off suspension to have a serious conversation with her.”
Although many of us would like to see Cyborg take on current bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey, that fight isn’t totally in the bag as Rousey will be facing off with Sarah Kaufman on August 18th, to defend her title for the first time. Either way, it should be interesting to see Cyborg making her return to the cage at a lighter weight.
